Mozambique

Bordering South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Tanzania, Mozambique is a vast tropical paradise shaped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Long regarded as one of Africa’s most underexplored coastal destinations, Mozambique is increasingly fulfilling its potential as one of the continent’s most exciting and unspoilt travel regions.

Its spectacular coastline stretches for thousands of kilometres and is characterised by pristine beaches, coastal wetlands, turquoise waters and some of the finest coral reefs in Africa. Offshore islands, remote archipelagos and world-class marine ecosystems make Mozambique a paradise for beach lovers, divers and anglers alike.

At the same time, the rehabilitation of Gorongosa National Park, alongside the development of Maputo National Park and several transfrontier conservation areas, is helping to establish Mozambique as an emerging safari destination with enormous long-term potential.

Key destinations include Maputo and the southern coastline north to Xai-Xai, the laid-back charm of Inhambane, the gateway town of Vilanculos, the central coast around Beira, and the northern coastal hub of Pemba.

Offshore, the islands of Inhaca, Bazaruto, Benguerra and Ilha de Moçambique offer a range of exceptional island and coastal experiences, from barefoot luxury retreats to remote marine adventures.

Mozambique is renowned for its outstanding diving, deep-sea fishing and saltwater fly-fishing, while its blend of beach, bush and marine adventure makes it an exceptionally rewarding destination for travellers seeking something a little more adventurous and less conventional.
