Tanzania

Tanzania is world-renowned for its extraordinary wildlife and is home to some of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations. The country’s celebrated wilderness areas include the vast Serengeti Plains, the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater, Ruaha National Park, Selous Game Reserve, Lake Manyara, and the remote chimpanzee habitats along the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

For many travellers, Tanzania represents the quintessential African safari destination. Each year, enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra move across the Serengeti ecosystem in one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth, drawing visitors from around the globe to witness the drama of the Great Migration.

Beyond its legendary safari regions, Tanzania is also home to some of Africa’s most remarkable natural landmarks. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain on the continent, and nearby Mount Meru attract climbers and adventurers from around the world.

The coastal city of Dar es Salaam serves as the gateway to the exotic island of Zanzibar, whose rich history, white-sand beaches and spice-scented heritage provide the perfect complement to a safari adventure.

While Tanzania’s northern safari circuit is its most famous, the country’s southern and western wilderness areas remain less travelled and deeply rewarding. The vast Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park offer some of the most pristine and unspoilt safari experiences in Africa, with exceptional game viewing in far more remote settings.

Further west, the forested Mahale Mountains rise dramatically above the shores of Lake Tanganyika, providing one of Africa’s most unique wilderness experiences and one of the best places on earth to encounter wild chimpanzees.

With landscapes and experiences of extraordinary variety, Tanzania remains one of Africa’s great natural treasures and a true explorer’s paradise.
